Nathan has worked as a commercial photographer, studio assistant and retoucher in commercial and e-commerce studios for over five years. His photography work has been tailored towards a strong interest in product, fashion and lifestyle briefs, where recently he has produced imagery for George at ASDA, Ideal Shopping Direct, the University of Derby, the Derwent WISE project and the Derby Rowing Club. He has also assisted a range of photographers with lighting set-ups, camera operation, styling and studio backgrounds, as well as offering image retouching during and after shoots. His photographic work has also been broadcast on TV shopping Channels and published in the Tattered Lace magazine whilst working for Ideal Shopping Direct.
Nathan studied Commercial Photography at the University of Derby, where he created a number of projects using the photographic studio, developing and printing analogue film in the darkroom, filming short advertisements and produced complex composite images using Photoshop. These skills and experiences allowed him to gain a First Class degree and lead to assisting on fashion, product and fashion shoots for multiple photographers. The project ‘Breaking Glass’ is his most recent project, which attempts to provide representation to women working in traditionally male dominated workplaces, to break down stereotypes and highlight the gender inequalities. These images were digitally constructed by capturing models in the studio and different workplace locations, which were then composited together using Photoshop, to reflect on the stereotypes as cultural constructions. This project was exhibited at the University of Derby’s Degree Show and at the Old Truman Brewery in London in 2019.
